LONG-TERM SPANISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM
AIMS
This unique program is designed to immerse students in Spanish language through class instruction, elective workshops and 'Intercambio' Language program, providing accelerated learning for students focused on mastering the language.
Ideal for students taking a few months to a year from school, and those who wish to master their Spanish proficiency.
The studies are aimed at providing students with the most comprehensive educational learning experience by complementing studies with free weekly cultural classes, free excursions to famous historic and cultural sites and social acitivities.

DURATION & CLASS SIZE
Course starts every Monday with the duration of 12 weeks or more.
Available all year long, students can choose when to start and how long the course duration will be. Students may study longer in any of these courses. For course fees please contact the Programs Director.
For accelerated learning, our classes are specifically reduced to 5 to 6 students per class (maximum of 8). This ensures that students have opportunity to actively participate in class and learn what is being taught at a rapid rate.
Students applying for the STUDY & TRAVEL Course must indicate the LOCATION (Madrid, Salamanca and / or Marbella) and state the DURATION in each city (minimum of 2 weeks in one city).

Each course has individual curriculums to ensure that students attain language proficiency and achieve the specified goals. One Lesson is 55 minutes long.

CURRICULUM
LANGUAGE CLASSES
Long term courses are designed for applicants interested in learning or improving their Spanish to a higher level by dedicating a significant amount of time to this pursuit.
Students rapidly improve or attain proficiency in Spanish and also become acquainted with the Spanish lifestyle and customs. Immersion in various aspects of Spanish society is achieved with studies on the culture and history, including Spain's current financial and political situation. At the end of the course, students will experience life as a Spaniard, speaking the language fluently and having an in-depth knowledge of the Spanish culture and society.
The course integrates the four language skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. In addition to these skills, grammatical structures are emphasized to enable the student to attain communicative proficiency. As learning a language is a dynamic process, aims of this course is for total immersion in the language itself.
Curriculum is specially designed according to the different needs of each level of proficiency and duration of the course. Classwork using everyday topics with communicative teaching methods ensure that students achieve the goals of each course and progress rapidly. Continuous assessment allows students to monitor their progress at all times.
Classtimes: Classes are held from on Mondays to Fridays, from 09:30 to 2:00 or from 15:00 to 19:00. Whether classes are scheduled on mornings or afternoons will depend on the number of students and their Spanish level.
ELECTIVE WORKSHOPS
Designed to provide a comprehensive curriculum, a range of electives are offered giving students the opportunity to study many different aspects of Spanish culture including history, art, civilisation, literature, cinema, etc.
4 different workshops are offered: HISTORY, LITERATURE ART & CIVILISATION, RADIO, PRESS, DRAMA:
- HISTORY, LITERATURE, ART & CIVILISATION:
Aim: Students will learn how to analyse some of Spain's most well-known writers and artists that reflect Spanish History. Students will also discover the Spanish customs, gastronomy, popular events, etc.
- RADIO WORKSHOP:
Aim: Students will produce their own radio programme based on national and international current affairs.
- PRESS WORKSHOP:
Aim: Students will produce their own newspaper/magazine based on news, cultural events, popular traditions as well as interviews.
- DRAMA WORKSHOP:
Aim: Students will learn how to express themselves using body and verbal communication, using extracts from well-known Spanish plays.
Elective workshop Teaching Hours:
Taught 2 hours a week, the above workshops form part of the course and are compulsory. They are taught by experienced and qualified instructors and held in the afternoons. The workshops encourage the students to actively participate in set activities, thereby further building vocabulary and speaking proficiency. Held on Wednesdays or Fridays from 12.00 to 14.00 or from 15.00 to 17.00.
· 'INTERCAMBIO' LANGUAGE EXCHANGE
Students are paired with native speakers to provide interaction with Spanish students and engage in language and culture exchange. This highly successful program has been the beginning of many lasting friendships.
EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES
To ensure a comprehensive learning experience, free-guided excursions are provided. They are held in the afternoons during the week. The actual places visited vary and depend on each intake. Places include Picasso Musuem, Casa Gaudi, La Sagrada Familia, Montjuic Fonts, Olimpic Arena, Pueblo Español, Amusement Park "Tibidabo", City Tour and Water Parks. A monthly program of the planned cultural activities is provided.
Optional weekend tours requiring overnight accommodation is not included in the course fee.
Students participating in the STUDY & TRAVEL course will participate in excursions and activities held by the other campuses.
STUDY & TRAVEL COURSE
The following information applies only to those applying for the STUDY & TRAVEL 12 weeks or more course.
This course of 22 hours per week is similar to the course of Long Duration as stated above. The only difference is that the student may combine studies in any of our four schools in Spain (Madrid, Barcelona, Marbella and Salamanca) and receive the same outstanding tuition quality, methodology and service.
The student may choose the appropriate combination. The advantages of this particular course, is that the student becomes more familiar with Spain's different cities and cultures, and develops a multi-perspective view on the Spanish way of life.
The minimum duration of this course is 12 uninterrupted continuous weeks (3 months). Cost of travel between cities is not included in the course fee.
During Application, students must indicate the LOCATION (Madrid, Salamanca and / or Marbella) and state the DURATION in EACH city (minimum of 2 weeks in one city).
PLACEMENT TEST
Non-beginners begin the course by undergoing a written and oral placement test to determine the suitable class level. This test takes place at 9.30 am on the first Monday of the course. As soon as the testing process has been completed, the coursework takes place immediately.
CLASS LEVELS
There are 5 different levels of Spanish: Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, Advance and Proficient. All the levels, with the exception of the Proficiency level, are sub-divided into 3 groups containing a higher, medium and lower level.
1 BASIC (BEGINNER): This course is designed for those students who are beginning Spanish for the first time. By the end of the course, students will be able to form some of the basic structures in Spanish and will have a basic knowledge of the Spanish culture and society.
2 ELEMENTARY: This course is designated for those students who already have a previous knowledge of some of the basic structures in Spanish. By the end of the programme, students will have increased their level of grammar and vocabulary so they can express themselves functionally according to the different context. They will also have a greater awareness of Spanish culture and society.
3 INTERMEDIATE: This course is designated for students having a general command of the more complex structures in the Spanish language and a good vocabulary base. By the end of the course, students will be able to use their Spanish more fluently and will have a greater understanding of the Spanish way of life. The course attempts to improve the student's understanding of the linguistic and extra-linguistic structures in Spanish so he/she can communicate more effectively.
4 ADVANCED: This course is designed for students who possess a solid knowledge of Spanish language and culture and are able to perform at the communicative level. By the end of the course, students will have gained a wider knowledge of the Spanish culture and will be more proficient at expressing his/her ideas at an abstract level.
5 PROFICIENCY: This course is designed for those students with a high command of
the Spanish language. Special emphasis is placed on perfecting the student's oral and writing skills and also in developing a global perspective of the Spanish culture in relation to the student's particular field of interest.
TEACHERS & TEACHING MATERIALS
Highly qualified and experienced teachers, all of them holders of a degree in teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language and additional degrees in specific areas of their teaching for example, Spanish philology, History, Marketing and Tourism.
Perscribed textbooks are provided. Some of the texts used include:
Basic (beginner) & Elementary levels: ELE 1 (SM); GENTE (DIFUSION); USO (EDELSA); RÁPIDO (DIFUSIÓN). Intermediate level: AVANCE (SGEL); MÉTODO DE ESPAÑOL PARA EXTRANJEROS (EDINUMEN). Advanced level: ABANICO (DIFUSION); PUESTA A PUNTO (EDELSA). Proficiency level: CURSO SUPERIOR (SGEL); MÉTODO DE ESPAÑOL PARA EXTRANJEROS (EDINUMEN); PUNTO FINAL (EDELSA); CURSO DE PERFECCIONAMIENTO (SGEL).
ASSESSMENT & CERTIFICATE
At the end of short-term courses, tests are held to assess the level of proficency achieved. Students completing this course successfully will be granted a Diploma, which certifies the type of course, the amount of hours studied, and the achieved level of proficiency. Students will also be provided with a report card, which includes a detailed account of the student's progress according to the specific linguistic skills. Students can obtain credits to be transferred to their home college or university.
ACADEMIC CREDIT TRANSFER
Our accredited courses have enabled students to be granted transfer credits when participating in our program. To determine whether your home college or university will grant credit tranfer, students muct confirm this with their institution’s Study Abroad Department or Spanish Language Department.
As individual institutions differ according to procedural requirements, credit transfer must be arranged before you leave for Spain. This is important for students looking to fulfil major requirements while abroad. Students should contact the appropriate department about the procedures for academic transfer. Students should obtain a written confirmation detailing the credit they will receive when they participate in this program.

A wide range of accommodation options is included in the course program. Course Fees vary depending on the type of accommodation selected. For the privacy and convenience of students, all rooms are single occupancy.
